HELP...Database needs to be repaired error

I was adding records to my database when I suddenly got a
message that says "the database needs to be repaired or
isn't a database file, would I like to repair?" When I
click "Yes" to repair, I get another message that
says "The database can't be repaired or isn't an Access
Database File".

Another user had the database open at the same time and
had no problems. We all closed the database and tried
again to repair it thinking that it might not allow me to
repair it if someone else had it open, but I got the same
error message.

Everyone closed the database and I tried to reboot and now
that we have all closed out the database, no one can even
open it to try and save the all of the data that was
entered during the day. I just continue to get this same
error message.

How can I get the database repaired or opened in order to
retrieve the data? What would have caused this error to
happen? Is it possible that 2 people were trying to add
records at the same time when there is an auto number
field in the table?

How can I prevent this from happening again?

Please, can anyone help me?

determining the offending PC, retrieving your data, links, official MS
KB articles and a list of vendors who state they can fix corruption

This is typical behaviour. Access only checks for corruption when you
enter the MDB. Not while you are in the MDB.
