Help!!! -- Email task notifications not sent + PjSvrNPE errors

We are running Microsoft Project Server 2003 SP1 and one day our email
notifications (for tasks) stopped working, even when no modifications had
been made to the server. I have checked the email settings and it is
pointing towards the correct server and port. I was able to telnet to the
server from the project server as well and send mail with the same account,
so access isn't an issue.

I do notice that we are now seeing the following errors in the event log as
well:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Project Server Tracing Eventlog Provider
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2
Date: 7/22/2005
Time: 10:59:57 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE
Computer: SRVGPIWEB
Description:
Component: PjSvrNPE
File: C:\Office\dev\project\WebClient\source\utility\pjrecordsetutil.cpp
Line: 105
Error Number: 0x800a0e78
Description:
Assert Detected. The error code was also
included.

___________________________________

Component: ADODB.Recordset
Description:
Operation is not allowed when the object
is closed.

Which I believe may be related. Do you have any good ideas as to what this
error could be? This is not in the knowledgebase.

Thanks,

TE

Well, no one was able to help me with this, and for good reason it turns out.
This is related to KB articles 885851 and 887799 according to Microsoft.
The only way to fix this is with a brand new hotfix that hasn't been updated
in the knowledgebase yet, and I was told it will be included in the upcoming
SP2 that will be released in a month or so for Project Server.

Anyways, the name of the hotfix is 205887_intl_i386_zip.exe, and until you
get that or the soon to be released Service Pack 2 for Project Server 2003,
you will not be able to get email updates for your new projects and these
errors will persist.

Like all of the hotfixes you will have to run both an executable on your
webserver and a series of scripts/queries on your SQL server. Best of luck
to you!

Unfortunately, I can't edit newsgroup postings. :) Just to clarify, if you
get the hotfix for KB article 887799, even though the PjSvrNPE info is not
there it *will* fix the problem.
