Help exporting numbers as text to Excel

I'm trying to export serial numbers stored as text. These serial numbers are
13-digits long and can include leading zeros (thus, storing as text). When
exporting the report to Excel, the leading zero is being dropped and they are
being converted to scientific notation. How do I keep them as text?

Try exporting them with an apostrophe at the beginning (on English keyboards
it's on the same key as the @ symbol).

Excel is a real PITA as it automatically formats data into whatever format
it thinks best and there is no way to turn it off.
