Help - Files (xls) will not open - indicate they are different for

I have several xls files created by Excel 2007 but saved in 2003 format which
will no longer open. I get a message indicating the file is in a different
format from its extension (which is xls). I can not open these in Excel or
Notepad.

Help Please

How can I recover these files *and* how can I prevent this from repeating in
the future?

I saw this yesterday myself when I used code to save the files as a .xlsm and
didn't include the FileFormat piece of it. Is it possible you did something
like this?

Bob - I managed to get my old computer from our Local IT folks before they
reimaged it and was able to get the files off of it that worked. For some
reason when the files were copied from that old computer to a external usb
and then to my new computer they were corrupted.
