Help, how do I get it to stop?

My problem is that a while back, I attempted to download a patch to my
Microsoft Word and it did not work. Everytime I attempt to open a
document, Word tries to complete the download. This download requires
the Microsoft disc, which I no longer have. I have to click cancel and
then Word will open but I have to then go to file and open to get my
document. How do I get this to stop? I really hope someone can help me.
