Hi!
We are desperately trying to get an Office 2003 setup ready to roll
out. We have been told (by Microsoft) that we can install the Local
Installation Source separately first, and then run setup locally to
install Office at a later date. We would really like to do this since
we are looking to upgrade from Office XP on 1600+ desktops in several
different locations worldwide, and would like to stage the
distribution of the Local Installation Source but install Office all
at once.
We have done the following:
- Created a compressed CD image on the network, and replaced the
default Setup.exe with the Enterprise Setup.exe.
- Creatd a custom MST using the Custom Installation Wizard
- Created a custom INI file with the "CACHEONLY=1" option, but
otherwise including everything we want, such as chained MUIs.
- Created a second INI file with "ENFORCECACHE=1" instead of
CacheOnly, but otherwise the same.
- Ran the install using the MST and the CacheOnly INI. This resulted
in an MSOCACHE directory on our C drive (where we want it), and no
Office install (as intended).
This is where the problem comes in. Now that we (apparently) have an
MSOCache directory, how do we initiate the actual install of Office
from here? The MSOCache directory contains the MSI, our MST and all
the CAB files, but no Setup.exe or anything. We tried copying the
Setup.exe from our compressed network directory, but no luck. We get
a "Fatal Error during Installation".
Has anybody else used this approach successfully? Has anybody else
heard of using this approach? ANY feedback would be much appreciated!
We're kind of stumped!
Thanks in advance,
Gloria Webber
