Help! - HTML Images not displaying in Email

P

Pierre Naggiar

Is this a common problem, or is it unique to my Entourage settings &
environment?

I have a bold red "X" showing in boxes throughout incoming emails
where there should be an image ??

Emails look great when I view them on the server; but when I download
them to Entourage with "Send/Receive" they show up with bold red "X"
where there should be an image? I also never get the yellow "info bar"
at the top of the message giving me the option to display the
content??

My environment is as follows:
HW= Macbk;IntCDuo,4MbCache,2GbMem
SW= MacOSX 10.4.10. Entourage 2004 for Mac Version 11.3.6.
Preferences = all Entourage Security boxes are checked. All email
senders are in my Entourage contact list.
Account Type: POP

Any ideas? anyone?

The images in these emails are links to a server, right - as opposed to
attachments in the message? If so, then I would try to verify that
your Mac can actually connect to that server to retrieve the messages.
If you view the source of the message you should be able to see the URL
to one of the images. Copy and paste that URL into a web browser and
see if the web browser can display the image.

Not getting the yellow info bar does not sound like the usual database
problems, but corruption shows in some strange ways. Do some tests to find
out the source of the problem. (you could try step 3 first)

1. Switch Identity and create a new test Identity. I suggest leaving one of
the problem messages on your server for the test. Set the new Identity to
leave mail on server for the test. You'll need to enter the account info and
any contact info that pertains to the test message. Does the problem happen
in a new Identity? If no then it's your database that's the source of your
problem. Do a Rebuild of the database.

2. If the problem did not go away, then we need to test your User's folder.
Create a new User in System Preferences and run the same test as #1 there.
Did the problem go away. If yes, then it's something in your User's folder
that's the cause. If no, then it's system wide or your Office install is
bad.

3. If it was system wide, the first thing you should do is run the latest
Apple combo updater. Doing so overwrites potentially problem-causing files.
Several users have reported this fixed some odd problems they were having
with Entourage. Combo updaters will install on the same version as they¹re
applying‹no need to roll back or do a clean install.

Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update (Intel)

updatev11intel.html>

Test Office after applying the combo, if the problem still exists, then you
need to use "Remove Office" and install and update Office. Updating is
IMPORTANT as Entourage will not open your current database until it's
updated. There was a change in the database from the release version that
requires the update to open the database.

Please let us know what you find.
