HELP! I can't type anything!

My Microsoft Word 2007 has one major glitch - I can't type, or do anything
else. For the past few days at work I've been using Word to view read-only
documents and it's been working today. Today at work I went start typing up a
document (which is basically all I do) and everything is locked. When I try
to type, a message dispays in the bottom left hand corner "This modification
is not allowed because the selection is locked." At first I thought it was
because I don't have a product key (Microsoft Office 2007 came with my
laptop), so I searched fervently for how to get a product key, and I finally
obtained one. Upon entering it, surprise! It still won't let me type. It's
pretty much essential that I used Word for work and I'm really getting
frustrated. I can't find any answer as to how to fix this problem! Someone -
please help!!

Sounds like your new laptop came with a free trial version of Office
2007, and the trial period has ended. You can convert your trial
software to a full version as described at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA101936151033.aspx . But you
can probably get a better price from online vendors such as Amazon.com
or big-box stores such as Costco and Sam's Club.
