Help - I messed up all the images in my Word 2007 Doc

M

Martin Kultermann

Hello, I have a word document with linked images.

I did something and now the Format Picture Dialog is different and when I
select an image it has a different border around it including a little stick
with a ball at the top that can rotate it. This now happens for every image
in the Document.

The problem is that when I Print the Document to PDF all the images come out
black.

This is unique to just one document file. Other files still have the old
image border and Format Picture dialogs and print out fine.

What could I have done and how can I undo it?

Thank you, Martin

Hi Martin,

If your pictures previously had blue handles and no green rotation handle that could indicate that it had been either (a) saved in
Word 97-2003 .doc format or that (b) it was saved in Word 2007 .docX format, but with the
[x] Maintain compatibility with Word 97-2003
turned in the Office Button=>Save As dialog.

In either of those cases you should see a 'convert' [upgrade to 2007 features] choice in the Office button menu.

If you're seeing white pearl corners and and the green rotation handle, even when the text wrapping for the picture (right click the
picture to check) is set to 'inline with text', the file is no longer in 'compatibility' [with prior versions] mode. For Word 2007,
it's functioning normally. If you clicked on the 'convert' choice you would get the 'sudden' change you describe.

If you wish to revert to the compatibility version use
Office Button=>Save As=>Word 97-2003
and save the document to a new name.
