It used to be (years ago -- way back in the 90s) that if you turned on
the "Scroll Lock" key in Word (and other word processing programs), it
would anchor the vertical position of your cursor in the text. That
is, your cursor would stay on the same line on your screen, and the
text would scroll upward as you typed and hit return (or, if you
pressed the up or down keys, the text would move relative to your
cursor, instead of your cursor moving up and down on the screen.)
The effect is not unlike writing on a typewriter... the text you're
typing always appears at the same eye-level, while the "paper" moves
upward after every carriage return. I really miss that effect (I like
looking at the same spot while I'm typing), and I would love to find a
macro or some other trick to bring back the old Scroll Lock option.
I'd even change word processing software to do it.
Any ideas?
