Help Inserting HPGL Graphic File

Has anyone figured out how to insert an hpgl graphic file
in Word 2003?

Word XP supported this via the hpgl32.exe utility. I
installed the same utility with Word 2003 but Word still
does not recognize the hpgl graphic file.

Hi Graydon,

The MS HPGL filter download is still available (not updated),
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;196506&FR=1
but it doesn't work as well in Word 2002 and 2003 as in earlier
versions, where MS has moved from the GDI to the GDIPlus
graphics engine. (i.e. it will work fine on some .HPG,
..HPGL and .PLT files, but not on others. If you get a
preview in Insert=>Picture you'll likely be okay with the
file in Word as well.

Be sure to follow the information in the Readme file in
the package for setting the registry and in Word turn
on Tools=>Options=>General [x] confirm conversions at open
and then use Insert=>Picture
to have Word update its settings of available converters.

Whether the HPGL import filter seems to be a hit-or-miss proposition. I am
using Word 2003 and installed the latest fix-paks, and have HPGL filter
installed (I did follow the instruction exactly). I have it working on the
computer at home but here at work, I have not been able to get it to work.
When I import the file, it doesn't get recognized at HPGL file automatically.
I chosed HPGL but then Word fails to pick up the file.

Don't know what else to do.

Microsoft's standard answer is to have it converted to another format (like
GIF) but that proofs to be a bad idea because the converted picture doesn't
look as good as the original. When it works, the HPGL filter produres
pictures that are far better.

Hi K.C.,

As mentioned the HPGL filter isn't supported,
it just 'is'.

What version and updates of Word and Windows are you
using on both machines?

Was either one an upgraded Office or both installed
clean?

If you turn on [x] Confirm Conversions at open
in Tools=>Options=>General and then use
Insert=>Picture=>From File does the "HPGL Graphics"
choice appear in the filetype list?
