RE: post installation internet access problem

I have a new HP computer that came with a 90 day trial of student office.
When the 90 days was up; I installed Office Professional 2003 which I
purchased from the Microsoft site. When I checked for updates as it instructs
you to do; it updated me to Explorer 7.0 apparently. The installation
seemingly went fine. UP to this point I had internet wireless access. I
finished the install and shut off the computer and restarted it. As soon as
it came up; some of the settings on my computer had been changed. (The font
size for the desktop for example) However, the most annoying was that I no
longer had a connection with my wireless (home) and it also recognized no
wireless networks!

Not only that, when I connected it directly to a modem; it did not
recognize that either. I have Bellsouth and a belkin router. I could not
get on either the bellsouth 198 page or the belkin 198 page.

ispconfig indicates a whole different IPS and no gateway is listed! I have
tried going to LAN and making sure it selected the site. When this is done,
it doesn't find it! It lists no wireless networks found.

I have turned off ANY firewalls while trying to correct. I know the wireless
and modem are OK because I can access it on another computer. SOMEHOW when
it installed, all of the settings were changed and I cannot figure out how to
change them back!!! So I have no internet access on my brand new computer
now. HOW DO I FIX THIS AND WHAT HAPPENED??? I need help.

I called Bellsouth and they just kept telling me to reset the modem over and
over again for 1 1/2 hours!??? I told them it was a problem with the
settings but they just don't get it. Since Microsoft has no help (which they
should at least for a short time for what they charge!!!) I am at a total
loss. HELPPPPP!!!??? (I have XP; and as I said the computer is brand new!!!)

HELP ASAP HELP HELP HELP!!????!!! PLEASE, thanking you ahead of time.
