Ok so I was runnigng office beta 2 on XPMCE and tried to install the
technical refresh. the install process ran to the end and gave a generic
install error. I tried to install again and same thing. After that i could
not open my outlook program because it told me i was out of system memory. i
uninstalled all of office 2007 beta 2 from my system. now I try to re-install
office beta 2 and the install runst to the very end and gives me an error
code 2908. I tried installing the tech refresh on my vista RC1 install of
office 2007 beta 2 and had the same problems in the same order. Is there any
way to fix this si i can re-install beta 2 fresh or am I out of luck?

Matt,I and many others have been having trouble with the Technical Refresh
and from what I have read so far they are all different problems. And
Microsoft has know solutions to fix.I have tried Microsofts failed
installation procedure (kb/923718)
and of course nothing worked.I've tried Patrick Schmids solutions from his
blog and they never worked.
Really and I dont like the idea but from what I've read so for a few days
here is I think I just wont update to the Technical Refresh because mine is
working ok without it and I am running Vista RC 1.Seems they want us to
update office but people are having ALL sorts of problems.I am afraid if I
get it to actually install I'll wont be able to use my Outlook 2007 Beta 2.
Anyway for now this is what I think I may do.Good luck.

If you have Outlook 2003 installed on your computer, remove it before
installing the TR. That could be still installed as part of Office 2003.
If you removed it, run a repair of Office 2007 afterwards.
There are a lot of reasons why the TR might fail to install. Most of
them require a look at the log file. I have been handling those cases
via email, as there don't seem to be any easy solutions. Most of the
time, I actually have to send the log file to Microsoft, because I
haven't seen that particular problem before.

Patrick I have uninstalled 2003 many months ago.And I have run diagnostics
and it says that, no problems with everything but, Update Diagnostic-Beta
installation is out of date. This is really annoying because I've paid for
this Technical Refresh and it doesnt work.Really I am at a lost with the TR.

Remove all of Office 2007, install all Office 2007 applications you want
as Beta 2 again, and then apply the TR.
You shouldn't have to pay to download the TR. Only Beta 2 downloads cost
money ($1.50 a piece).

Patrick I would like to uninstall all Office 2007 but I would like to back up

Personal folders back for Outlook but quess what it doesnt work.As it says in
the File menu Choose Backup. Not there.Maybe because its not meant for Office
2007.But I am still at a loss

Patrick, I took a chance went through all my Outlook address's and e-mails
and had everthing already printed on paper so I downloaded the Technical
Refresh and it worked just fine. Then I ran the Office Diagnostic to see if
there was any problems and it all said, "No Problems".So my problem is
solved.I just hope it keeps working good.Thank you for all your help and
advice.
