Help! Installer looking for PRORET.MSI. Error 1706.

Office XP on a new laptop. Everything was fine yesterday. Today when
boot up the installer launches automatically, trying to configur
something. Then it asks me for my Office XP disc. I'm on the road fo
a 10 day trip. The CD is at home.

Why is it doing this? Can I make it stop? It says it cannot find th
required files (Error 1706)PRORET.MSI. (I may have downloaded
Chinese characters package when visiting a Chinese website. Could thi
be the cause? Can I uninstall the Chinese so that I can use my lapto
with out the istaller launching all the time?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Jeremy,

Error 1706 is that Office can't find it's original program
source (CD in this case). You'll get that message when
it needs to install an additional feature or to repair
something (it's possible that the other package you downloaded
modified or replaced an Office file), uninstalling the
other package at this point may or may not help with that
message.

While it may not help on this trip (unless you have someone
nearby with the same MS Office XP Professional CD available
for you to use to complete the repair) for the future,
you can copy your Office CD to your hard drive if you don't
carry a CD pack with you.

I would also like to find were I could get the proret.msi file, necessary to
complete the "Detect and Repair" function of Office XP.
