HELP! Japanese characters showing instead of English (WORD 2007)

Almost once a day I have text in my documents (both Excel and WOrd) convert
to Japanese characters. Once that happens the only way out is to restart.
Maybe its some sort of virus? ( had it since about July last year)

I notice that a little text box appears briefly when that happens and then
disappears once you start typing.
PS its nothing to do with the language tool bar at bottom - as I am not
clicking on it at all (and it still shows as English)
