HELP - Large Document due to Graphics

I have MS Word 2003

Hi, I've searched this forum extensively, however, I was wondering if
someone could explain to me in basic "dummies' version.

I am working on a document (about 300 pages so far) that includes many
graphics on the pages. I am working with five/six other members, and each
one is sending their own word document that I need to incorporate into this
mega 300 page document. For the graphics, here is what I was doing to copy
into my word document, I copy the image (Ctrl+C) and then go to my word
document and do Paste Special/ Enhanced Metafile.

The document grew up to 20 meg quickly. Researching through this forum, I
found out that I could save those images on my hard drive and then instead of
pasting into my document, I did Insert\Picture\Insert From File\Insert-Link
to File Option.

I then sent this file to the members and some could see some of the graphics
and some could not. Would anyone know what I did. I need to have a secure
graphics images in my document that is not going to quadrupel.

I guess I need to understand the Link to File option with graphics. If I
ever deleted those graphics images from my hard drive, would my word document
not work anymore?

Thanks so much. Sorry my note is long winded. I am trying to make sense.

Yes, when you link to the file instead of embedding it, the images are not
stored in the document. In fact, linking is not really suitable for
documents that must be sent to others, since you also have to send all the
images (and make sure the links aren't broken), and Word actually manages to
store the images more economically in the document than outside.

Just so long as you don't use .RTF... ;-)
