help :( MAC 9.2.2, OUTLOOK 2001 - No exchange server ?!?!?

K

Kimi

Hi,

I just downloaded the Outlook 2001 and it's all ready to go on my son's
iMac. We have OS 9.2.2 fully updated on it. plus I found the updates for
all software running on this machine including office 2001 products.

Now, I have a PC so I know this animal called Outlook in a different light.

I am a home user with a PC and an imac plugged into the same router. period.
no home server or network.

when outlook starts up to be set up for the first time it asks for the
Microsoft Exchange Server and name and a personal folder. I spent 5 hours
trying to do this. I must be a moron, but I can't get outlook to start...
when I try to test whatever I plug in, it inevitably Errors out and never
starts.

Please PLEASE tell me what to do- I am totally stumped... and not very
familiar at all with a MAC system in general.

*PS. if you do have the answer or a suggestion - please try to explain in
laymen's terms since I really am a beginner in the MAC world.

THANKS!

Hi Kimi!

Outlook 2001 for Mac is only for use with corporations that have
Exchange email servers. "Exchange" is the brand name of Microsoft's
email server software.

You can not use Outlook 2001 for home use, however, you can use Outlook
Express for home use.

What a bummer. I really needed the calendar part of outlook ... but not just
a calendar... I needed the all inclusive aspect of it. so I could schedule
appts. schedule emails...etc..

any ideas as to what I could use? anything with a free download or a
shareware to TRY BEFORE YA BUY?

thanks!

Hi Kimi!

None that I'm aware of for Mac OS 9 and earlier. Most commercial
products that could do this are probably discontinued now since Mac OS X
is now five years old.

Someone else may be able to suggest something for you.
