Help, MS Office is not working!

Microsoft word had always worked untila few weeks ago. Now
when I try to open microsoft word, an error message pops
up and says "This application must be installed to run.
Please run setup from the location where you originally
installed the application."

I can see that there is winword.exe in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office

Hi Anna,

What version of Office are you referring to? Are you able to start
Word by double-clicking WinWord.exe? Have you tried reinstalling?

When was the last time you updated your virus scanner and preformed a
full scan?

Yes, I tried 2x clicking on winword.exe.

I can not reinstall because the computer came with office
97 installed and I do not have the disks.

I have norton anit-virus installed/

It's possible that you've been infected with Klez. One of the symptoms
is the deletion or corruption of Winword.exe.

This article from the Symantec site contains a removal tool and
provides information on how to determine if you are infected since it
disables your virus scanner:
