HELP! My screen formatting has changed dramatically!

I now get a document which has, in the upper right hand corner, a flashing
vertical bar and a steady horizontal bar surrounding a small rectangle. I
used to get a simulated piece of paper. Plus, I can no longer format
paragraphs.

Nothing I do helps. I couldn't find any way to return to the defults which
held sway when I started WORD a couple of months ago.

I believe this has to do with something someone sent me in "outline" form,
but I can't figure out what has changed so I can change it back.

Please -- HELP!
