help needed with date expression

What expression in a query would gather the data from the current date, going
back 13 months to the beginning of that month? For instance:

If I run the query now, I'd like it to query all data greater than June 1,
2007.

or...

If I run the query this September, it would query all data greater than
August 1, 2007.
