Gerald (www.back-benchers.com)

Hi,
My name is Gerald and I am a beginner for website creation.I am using
Publisher 2003. I have created a site called www.back-benchers.com. Many are
the troubles I face and asking for help is the last resort for me. I believe
my uploading has taken me to the parent directory through where I am
redirected to my website.
Secondly, My entire site I had filled with PNG images after alternating with
GIF and Jpeg and I made a mistake of making each image size over 100 kb. U
can look at the site and find out the mistakes I made. Please bear with me, I
am only a beginner.
The Site takes a lot of time to load and I really want to improve my site
with all the images and other stuff which u might see in the site.
Also when I try to save a particular image from the website, the save as
option is disabled. Can any one help me out?
Should I install MS OFFICE Service Pack for the compression of my images.

my mail id is (e-mail address removed), (e-mail address removed)

Thank you..

Gerald,

To start with, you want to name your home page "index.htm", not
"Back-Benchers.htm". That is why you end up in your parent directory instead
of the site automatically loading. Also, it is unwise to post your email
addresses in a public newsgroup without munging it up. You are inviting lots
of spam.

Before you republish your site:

Go to Tools > Options > Web tab and untick the "Rely on VML..." and "Allow
PNG...".

If you don't want to reduce the size and optimize your images for the web in
a third party image editing application, then yes, you should be compressing
your images. "Compress graphics file sizes to create smaller Publisher Web
pages":
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011266301033.aspx

The right click, save as an image option is disabled in Publisher 2003 by
default. There is no way to change that. If you truly want the viewer to be
able to capture the images, then post back for workarounds.

Run the Design Checker under Tools to spot other possible design problems.

Delete your old files off your site before you upload your new HMTL files.

When you are ready to produce your new HTML files, then be sure to "Publish
to the Web" and not "Save as a Web Page", and as I said above, use the
default name of "index.htm" for your home page.
