HELP! Office XP update KB833858 crashes Access XP

J

Jay Louis

Hi,
After I downloaded Office XP Update: KB833858 I could
not get into my Access databases. I would receive an
error when my databases would open, Splash pages would
open fine, and then as soon as the switchboard would open
I would receive a code debug error. I can not read it
because almost immediately another window opens saying
Access has to shut down and asks if I want to send a
report to Microsoft.

Took a while to figure out what caused the problem.
Hours on the phone with Microsoft to get system up and
running again, resulted in a complete removal, registry
cleanup and reinstall of MS Office XP. Then when I
reinstalled Office all was well until I downloaded and
installed the above mentioned patch. The patch updates
the Microsoft Script Editor by restricting debugging.

Running system restore to remove the patch works and gets
access running again. Wish I tried that the first time.
Does anyone know what is happening? How can I work
around this? How can I let Microsoft know of the bug in
the patch?

I used office update to check to see what updates I
needed. It is not like I just download updates
indiscriminately.
