HELP! Page numbering & table of contents

S

Suzanne

Ok, I figured out how to create a table of contents and
number my sections into 1-1, 1-2. But it is reading my
table of contents as the first section. Therefore my real
section 1 page numbers read 2-1,2-2 and so on, when it
should read 1-1,2-1. I do not want page numbers in the
footer to show in the table of contents but I cannot seem
to get them to disapper. I have tried dividing the table
of contents into its own section and delete page numbers
as the Word Help suggested but it is still deleting them
from my whole document. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

If you've used the "Include chapter number" feature in the page numbers,
then what you're getting is not the section number but the number of your
heading. If the TOC is being numbered as 1, then you need to change the
"Table of Contents" heading from Heading 1 (or whatever) to a custom style
that looks just the same but doesn't have the numbering.

If you're using the actual section number in the footer, then this will not
show up in the TOC, anyway.

Also note that if the footer section following is configured to copy
previous section any change affects all following sections unless you turn
off the "same as previous" option in the footer.
