I agree with JoAnn's comments that Word is not the best application for this
sort of project, but also not everyone has Publisher. You can always use
PowerPoint for these projects.
But I know where you are coming from, athomemom, as my little one was told
by the teacher to do such a project in Word, so I gave him a few pointers.
Generally forget getting the cursor where you want the picture to be, get it
as close as you can, then insert the picture. Know with the picture selected,
go to Format Picture, and ensure that the Layout is one of the floating
options (i.e. not InLineWithText) no you can drag the picture to where you do
want it.
The floating options will give you different results as to how the text
reacts to the picture, but as you say your text are in Text boxes this should
not give you any problems.
As to cusoring to the next page, depending on where you are on the page, get
to the bottom of the page with the cursor keys, you can press Ctrl+Enter to
insert a manual page break, or press enter to create more paragraghs so you
can see where you are.
This is not the best solution and totally against the best-practices of
using Word, but to get the project out the door anything goes
Before the next project try PowerPoint or Publisher, adding, moving,
aligning is so much easier and gets little athomemom-junior enjoying computer
work, instead of lstening to senior cursing the monitor! ;-)

Hope this helps

So, we should have used Publisher instead of Word for this project. Now that
we are half done in Word, any suggestions?

Publisher will allow you to do exactly that.

I'm trying to help my sons on a school project which requires text boxes
and
corresponding pictures. We seem to get the boxes where we want them, but
then we can't get the curser in the correct spot to place the pictures.
We
also can't move the picture where we want them.
Also on one page I couldn't get the curser to go below the box in order to
start a new page in the document.
We're all frustrated and the project is due tomorrow.
Thanks
