If you've opened the file with Word, it will exhibit this behavior.
Unfortunately, if that's the case, it is corrupted beyond repair. Other wise
someone has set a password and you can usually crack it easily. Search
Google for "Crack Access password"

Hi, Greg.
its now asking for a log in password and username

Someone has been playing with User-level Security on your PC. You are
currently joined to a secure workgroup, where the default Admin user has
password that you must enter in order to open the secure database. If you
didn't create this secure workgroup and the password for the Admin user, then
someone else did. You need to rejoin the default workgroup, which doesn't
have a password (or shouldn't, unless someone made a mistake and set the
password for the Admin user in _that_ workgroup). For instructions on how to
rejoin the default workgroup, please see the "Security" section of the
following Web page for the link to the tip, "How to open databases and only
be prompted for User ID and password for the secure databases":

http://www.Access.QBuilt.com/html/how-to_tips.html

If you find that your default workgroup does indeed have a password assigned
to the Admin user, then close all instances of Access and rename the
System.mdw file (the default workgroup) to something else. Open Access and
it should regenerate the missing default workgroup file for you. If this
doesn't work, then restore this System.mdw file from a recent backup. If you
don't have a backup, then let this be a lesson to you that things can and do
go wrong with computers.

If this is the case, then as long as you have the MS Office Professional
2000 CD or MS Access 2000 CD, you can try to repair the Access installation,
which should regenerate the missing default workgroup file for you. Worst
case scenario is that you'll have to uninstall Access and reinstall it again
to get that default workgroup file back -- without the Admin password
assigned.

HTH.
