HELP!!!! Projects dissapeared from Project Center

S

Sebastian Cordoba

(PS 2007) Hi everyone.

I really need you to help me. All of my projects disappeared from Project
Center and don't know what to do. Here are some facts so you can understand
what's going on:
1- I've Administrator permissions.
2- Early this morning I was able to view the Projects in Project Center.
Just a few hours ago I realized they were gone. I'm getting this message
"Project Center cannot access the project(s) you are trying to view. It is
most likely that you either don't have permissions to view the project,
another user has deleted this project(s) before you were able to view it or
that another user is in the process of publishing the project."
3- I'm able to open them with Project Professional and even if I publish
them again, they don't appear on Project Center.
4- "Project Workspaces" section shows all of the projects. No problem with
that.
5- The only change I've made today was creating four new users (early this
morning) and that's it.
6- Same thing happening in other computers and to different people.
7- I have several PWA instances and this is the only one with the problem.
8- I've checked Data bases, restarted IIS, restarted the server,
deleted/added the Project Center Web part...and nothing happens.
9- HelpDesk installed me Outlook 2007 today.

WHAT CAN I DO? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Sebastian

Here are some things you could check:
1. Will the project center show projects when opened from the MS Project -
Collaboration menu?
2. Are there any error messages in the queue when publishing projects?
3. Will the project center show projects when accessing it directly on the
server where Project Server is installed?

Hi Mvisscher! Thanks for answering.

1. No, Project center doesn't show projects when opened from the MS Project -
Collaboration menu.

2. There are no error messages in th queue. In fact, I've created and
published two new projects and all the processes are completed succesfully:
Save, Publish, Notifications, Workspace...

3. No, the project center doesn't show projects when accessing it directly
on the
server where Project Server is installed.

:( This is sad. I really don't know what to do. Thanks for for help.

Sebastian --

Out of curiosity, what happens when you select different Project Center
views from the View pick list? Do all of the Views generate the same
problem, or do some Views so projects while other Views do not? Let us
know.

Sebastian Cordoba

Hi Dale. Glad to know you read my post.

Dale, when I pick different views I get the same message. I already checked
the views categories and permissions. As a matter of fact, I've created
entirely new views for Project Center and nothing happens.

Had you seen this before?

Hi Sebastian,

It seems to be issue with Pulished database. You can try the following
solution:

Steps:

1) Launch SQL Server Management studio by connecting to database

2) Run the following query against Published database

EXEC sp_updatestats

I hope this will resolve your issue.

Thanks

Hello Sebastian,

Are you sure, your published database is having the data? Run simple
SQL and see the project info will be listed or not. Do you have issue
with just Project Center or entire PWA? Also try to access the PWA
from different machine.

Also you can verify the categories and groups associated with project
center views. Also another important step is make sure your projects
belongs to proper security category/group. I suspect, project list may
be detached from My organization/My Projects category. (Choose the
Modify Category option for My Projects category and verify the
Projects setting: All current and future projects in Project Server
database is being selected)

Run the EXEC sp_updatestats against Published database and restart
IIS. Publish the project plan from Project Pro 2007. Also verify IE
settings. After these steps, try to access the Project Center. I am
not able to think further than this. It's strange issue, I am hearing.

Wish you the best.

Thanks
Chak

Hi Chak. Thanks for answering.

I've applied all of your suggestions. In fact, I've compared this PWA
instance with the others created on the server (which work fine) and they
have the same permissions for groups, categories, views, etc. Exactly the
same!!!!

I just can't get it. This situation is so rare. So far, I had done tests in
other machines, but that users had Administrator or Executive permissions.
Now, I've done the test with PM's (Project Manager permissions) and they do
are able to see their projects in Project Center. WHY?? I'm Administrator and
I can't.

Everything worked fine, I never changed the permissions and, but overnight,
Administrators and Executives are not able to view projects in Project Center.

Hi Sebastian,

Strange. I thought, no one able to view Project Center. That's why I
was saying to run the updatestas procedure. Now, I realized PMs able
to view the Project Center. Atleast, this is a good news.

Verify the PM group permissions. I hope, you will see My Project
Category with PMs group. If not "My Projects" category, you may be see
the equivalent name here. Make sure, this same category exists with
Administrator group.

May be you can do the typical Microsoft method just like reboot :)

I hope you also have second person with admin access. Ask that person
to deactivate and reactivate your user profile in PWA. If any user
profile corruption was happend, it will be reset your permissions.

Thanks
Chak

Hi guys.

Gary, I already deleted my browser cache, history, cookies; and nothing
happened. Thanks.

Chak. I've added 'My Projects' category to 'Administrator' group and checked
the permissions to view Projects in Project Center; and nothing changes. As I
said before I have more PWA instances which work fine and have the same
permissions at group and category level as this instance.

I think reboot is the only option for now.

THANK YOU ALL!

Sebastian,

The last one thing, deactivate and reactivate your profile in PWA. As
I said, you have to do it with help of other administrator.

Also try one more thing, add your profile to PM. You are saying, PMs
group is okay.

All the best.

Hi Chak.

I already had added my profile to PM and I was able to see only the projects
that I owned or participated in. This is so strange.

Anyway, now we're working on it with a support supplier and it's possible
that we're going to need Microsoft's help.

If we fix this I'll tell you what was wrong, so we all can learn about this.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Hi Sebastian,

Hi everyone.

This situation is baffling: right now I'm able to see the projects in
Project Center!

This is the story (read it carefully Sreenivas): Yesterday my support
supplier suggested to aply a hotfix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952289/)
but I had no time because my executives have a meeting today and they need to
see the projects via PWA. Moreover, this hotfix isn't a public download so
you have to contact Microsoft Customer Support Services.

What did I do? Since Team Members and PM's did were able to see Projects in
Project Center, I decided to this:
1- Add each one of my executives to Team Members and PMs groups and remove
them from Executive group.
2- Open each one of the projects (thank God there were just 10) and manually
add the executives (thank God they were just 3) to the project team through
Tools --> Build Team from Enterprise option. Then save the project.
3- Contact my PM's and told them to re-publish their projects. So that, the
new team members (my executives) were able to see the projects in Project
Center.

So far, so good, but I couldn't locate a couple of PM's, so I decided to
publish their projects via Project Professional using the Project
Administrator account. I did so and when I opened PWA again, I was able to
see all of the projects as Administrator, which I couldn't do before. With
the administrator account I added my user (Sebastian) to Executive group and
it worked: as Executive I also were able to see the projects, which I
couldn't do before.

Thing is: I already had tried the re-publish option before and nothing
happened in that moment. I don´t know what was different this time, maybe
using the Admin acount to login in Project Professional.

So Strange. I can't find a reasonable explanation for this, but my problem
is solved. Although with Project Server, you never know.

I have more doubts but I'm posting a new theat for them. Thank you all! :)

Hi Sebastian,

I could able to fix the issue. It is due to one corrupted project and whole
project center is crashed out. I just eliminated that project from Project
Center View and Project center is back. thats the reason some of the
projecrt managers could able to see some project in which the corrupted
project is not included.

you can figure it out the corrupted project by looking at queue. see the all
the event before the date the project center disappeared.

Thanks
Sreeni

Hi Sreenivas.

I was suspecting that too and I still think that that's one of the possible
reasons for this problem.

Thanks for the info. Bye.
