Unfortunately, there is no way to crack the code, or in
any way by-pass the password (that would kind of of defeat
the purpose of password protecting your documents). You
may want to try leaving the password blank, to see if that
works, or try to guess the code using something simple
(for example, 1234, or password).

Are you able to open the document? If yes, you may want to
manually duplicate the document into a new blank one,
without password protection. (Making a copy of the
document by copying and pasting, or by Save As, will not
solve the problem, because it will also copy over the
protection settings).

It may be a good idea to pick a password that you are
unlikely to forget, or you may want to keep it written
down in a safe place should you forget what the password
is. Hope this helps!

Thank you, that worked. You do learn something new
everyday. Didn't even try to do this because I thought
that inserting a file would keep the inserted part locked.

You're welcome. :)

One would think the document protection would carry over but
Tools/Protect it is not meant to be a foolproof defense against
malicious workarounds, but is designed for collaborative environments
where accidental changes to the document are what is being avoided.
