Hi I run a small website and am sorta OK/Good with Publisher but still
Amatuer on more advanced things. I have no advertising buget so primarily
make all my own marketing materials myself in publisher or word.
I need help removing the white background from a logo I created in Microsoft
Publisher 2007. Whenver I go to post the current logo file saved as a JPEG
onto a website the logo shows up along with the white background. How do I
remove this white background from the file so that wherever i post it you
only see the desired logo image.
I tried to save only the image as a photo by clicking the "CTRL" button and
clicking on the the two objects that make up the logo and then clicking save
as a photot. But it saved the picture as a PNG file. Then when I went to
upload it to the webpage instead of a white background it had a Black
Background. What am I doing wrong?
Please help

I posted a similar question a while back and got a helpful response from Rob
Giordano
"you need to save ONLY the logo object(s) as a jpg not the entire page.
and any time you resize it you should be holding Shift key and grabbin a
corner handle to keep the aspect ratio the same.

Post the URL so we can look at the logo
Generally the logo should be saved as GIF with the background being
transparent.
Infranview (a free program) will do that for you with your help
http://www.irfanview.com/

Thank you Spike! A gentleman just made this suggestion. i did as you both
suggested, got the infranview program and somehow converted the file to a
GIFF. And have just posted it to my website. www.shugastore.com and it's
clear! Go figure, all this time. So now I need to learn a little bit more
about infranview to learn what all I can do with that program as well.
One more question though for the future?
Should I be saving files as GIFF inside of Publisher when I need to create a
new logo or need to make changes etc? Or is that only possible in the
conversion software?

Splendid website gal, well done !

Can't help you with your last question, I know nothing about Pub 2007.

www.shugastore does not appear to be a Publisher site??? It is a framed
site. Are you just using Publisher to build your logos? A draw program might
be a better choice.

Transparencies are only supported by gif and png. PNGs seem to be a bit
larger in file size but are lossless and might be a better choice if you
plan on scaling the logo. Read up on the advantages and disadvantages of the
different image formats. You can save groups of design elements or whole
pages in Publisher 2007 in all different image file formats and different
resolutions for print and for web. Publisher produces images at 96 ppi/dpi
for Publisher webs, but 72 dpi can be a best choice for other webs.
Generally if you want the best results optimizing your images for the web is
best done in a third party image editing program...not within Publisher.

Thanks DavidF Ill look into these things. Also I only use Publisher2007 to
make my logo. I built the site in Quickshopping cart. so it doesn't take a
genius to do just a little creativity and patience. sorry for the delayed
response.
