Hi I run a small website and am sorta OK/Good with Publisher but still
Amatuer on more advanced things. I have no advertising buget so primarily
make all my own marketing materials myself in publisher or word.
I need help removing the white background from a logo I created in Microsoft
Publisher 2007. Whenver I go to post the current logo file saved as a JPEG
onto a website the logo shows up along with the white background. How do I
remove this white background from the file so that wherever i post it you
only see the desired logo image.
I tried to save only the image as a photo by clicking the "CTRL" button and
clicking on the the two objects that make up the logo and then clicking save
as a photot. But it saved the picture as a PNG file. Then when I went to
upload it to the webpage instead of a white background it had a Black
Background. What am I doing wrong?
Please help

I posted a similar question a while back and got a helpful response from Rob
Giordano
"you need to save ONLY the logo object(s) as a jpg not the entire page.
and any time you resize it you should be holding Shift key and grabbin a
corner handle to keep the aspect ratio the same.

Ok Mary Sauer, I will try these suggestions. Also The transparency tool your
speaking of is that "Set Transparent Color" tool you're speaking of? Because
if so, then great, I've used that tool before and yes it will take the white
background color off if the logo is placed inside of another Publisher file,
like say and email or postcard, etc. However if I wanted to just drop the
logo into a webpage online, that tool doesn't work. The file still shows up
with the white background.
If it is another tool you're speaking of could you maybe please be a little
more specific as to the name of it?
thanks a lot for your help,

You'll run into trouble using the transparency tool in Publisher since many
applications and programs do not support transparency. You'll experience the
same issue if you ever want to have anything commercially printed as well
(which is how I found this solution):

- Download a freeware program called Gimp at http://www.gimp.org/
- Once you've downloaded & installed it, you'll want to start the program
and then go to 'File' -> 'Open' then locate the logo file and open from
within the program
- Once the logo file is opened within the program, go to 'Layers' ->
'Transparency' -> 'Color to Alpha' (Or you can do the same from 'Colors' ->
'Color to Alpha'
- A box will appear with a preview, it defaults to the background color or
white so just verify what you're looking to remove is correct and click 'ok'
- Select 'File'->'Save As' then, in the box that appears, click on the '+'
next to 'Select File Type' at the bottom. Save in png format (jpg does not
support transparency) and you can leave the rest of the default settings
alone.

This should fix your problem - if not, then refer to the online help for Gimp.

Good Luck!
