help reqd!!!

Whenever i click to open an excel sheet,an installation
for "MICROSOFT OFFICE XP PROFESSIONAL WITH FRONT PAGE"
starts and then its asks for alternate path to a folder
containing the installation package 'PROPLUS.MSI'.

This is happening every time i am trying to open
excel.How can i disable this function once and for all?

Possibly those files are in your XLStart directory. XL attempts to open
evrything in XLStart. Search/Find>XLStart and remove files as appropriate.

You could try re-registering Excel.

Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes and note the space before the /
mark).

Then re-register by Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver

You may have to enter your full path to excel.exe....in that case surround
with quotes as in..... "C:\mypath\to Excel\somewhere\excel.exe" /unregserver

A second suggestion is......

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove. Select Office XP Pro and "Change".
Select the "Repair Office" and run that.

A third suggestion is(still under "Change")......

"Add/Remove Features" See what's installed and from where it is is run.

Excuse me butting in on this thread but I had just the same problem, an
I'd like to say a big "thank you", Gord Dibben. I was surfing for
solution to this annoying problem, came across yours (below), and i
