Help required in Excel Charting

Friends,

Please refer to the attached Sheet.

I have some data in " data available". Its something like, say fro
this km to this km, the # of birds observed is this much.

And I need to generate a chart, that appears as in " Chart I need"

I have used a scatter plot here using the data I copy into " How
arrange the data".

I have these questions.

1) I need a chart like what I have shown.
2) Is copying the data into the second sheet and charting based on th
data inthe second sheet the only option available?
3)If yes, what is the alternative?
4) If no, I want to automate this entire process using some formula
and Excel functions.

This is very necessary considering the fact that, I have thousands o
rows of such data.

Thanks and regards
Raj

Hello Nicky,

Thanks for the help. I learnt a good tip today.

What I am looking for is, along the X axis, I need 1,2,3,4 etc and th
data 100, 150 etc along the Y axis in a scatter plot.

Clarifying further, I plot lot of other variables along the Y axis.
And X axis is a continuous data and not discrete.

To give an example, I observe 100 birds between Points 1 and 2. If
plot that alone, a bar graph is fine.
However, I observe an electric post of height say 50 meters at
distance of 1.5, I will put a marker ( a point in the scatter plot) a
1.5 ( along X axis) with a height 50 ( along Y axis , which alread
scales upto 200).

So even though I plot these numbers as FROM - TO, there are other data
that are a function of X continuously.

With regards,
Raj

Hi Raja,
You can create what looks lie a "step bar" on a scatter chart usin
error bars, as in the attachment.

You need to calculate the length of the bars to attach to each dat
point according to the size of the increment between each x and y valu
(in columns D and E in the attached). It saves double-keying the
values, though
