HELP! Screen Resolution Settings

C

Curlydawn

I do all my updating on a computer with a screen resolution setting of 1024 x
768. But when others try and view my websites on a monintor set at 800 x 600
pixels everything is all messed up, words behind pictures, or huge pictures
that looked fine when it was edited on my computer...

I'm sure there is a setting but don't know where? Any help with this would
be great! Thanks

There is no setting, you have to design your site for the smallest browser window opening you want
to support, generally that is 8-- pixels wide. as users of higher resolution monitor don't
necessarily run apps at full screen.

Design for the mimimum resolution that you think people will use i.e.
800x600; then at least at 1024x768 it will not have the current problem
you're experiencing.

The other thing you can do is either

1) Make the site with fixed width tables at around 750pix (remember the 800
pixels width also includes screen elements of the browser itself - e.g.
browser window borders, toolbars, scroll bars etc and that takes about 50px
of space from the 800 width. Same goes for the height of 600, the toolbars
at the top of the screen and status bar at the foot take up alot of the
screen's viewing space.

2) Make the site with tables specifying a percentage width and that way the
tables will expand an contract according to the screen settings.

So does this mean that I need to set my screen to like 800 x 600 everytime I

No, it means you have to redesign the site.

To preview your work...File | Preview in Browser and then you can select the
browser width to preview at.
