Help - Setting page setting

Hi,

Is it possible to set a default page orientation in Visio? I prefer to use
Landscape with UML documents and it is a pain to have to change it for every
new Visio file.

Thanks.

You can create a new template for UML drawings that has the landscape
orientation as default page orientation.

Hi Geert,

I am still having trouble with this issue.

I could define a template (.vst) with the Landscape page setting. When I
open the vst file, no problem.

But when I create a new drawing based on that template - using
File > New > Software > Test UML

Test UML being the name of my VST, it still creates a page still in portrait
format.

What have I missed?

Thanks

Hello Rover,

I'd like to suggest the following steps for you to follow:

Steps to workaround
==================
Open your file
Choose File Page Setup
From the Print Setup tab choose Landscape
Click OK
Save your file as a VST template in your desired location
Close and reopen your VST template

Results
=======
The file's drawing page should now appear in landscape

If this is not working, then it could be an incompatibility or conflict
with your default printer. If possible, can you perhaps try it with a
different printer? If you are still having trouble, please let me know
what printer device and driver you are using and I will look into it again.
Also the steps above are for Visio 2003. The steps may differ slightly
if you have a different version of Visio. If this is still an issue for
you, can you also let me know what version of Visio you are using, what
Service Pack is installed and what language version of Visio.

Thanks for your assistance.

If I reopen the VST file, the page setting is fine.

However if I try to create a new document based on this VST, then the page
setting is reverted back to portrait.

Here is how I did that:
1) I saved the above vst into <Office
director>\visio10\1033\Solutions\Software so that this template will appears
on the list when I press File > New
2) I then use File > New > Software > MyLandscape to create a new document
based on this vst. MyLandscape.vst is the name of the template file.

It opens up but the page setting is still reverted back to portriat. Just to
convince myselft that I was pulling in information from this vst file, I
even dropped a few classes onto it before saving as vst. They were injected
into the new document correctly.

The only thing it does not do right is the page setting.

You gave me a clue to the problem - the default printer. I have only got one
printer - a Brother 1430 mono-Laser.

If I changed the printer's default settings to Landscape, then every new
document based on all stock-standard template opens in Landscape format.

So it seems Visio reads the default printer's setting to determine the Paper
layout for all new documents, irrespective of what the settings are inside
the template.

I am using MS Visio Enterprise Architects (10.2.2705) English version that
came with VS.NET 2003 Enterprise Arch. I can't remember if I have applied
any SP onto it.

Rover.
