Help SP3 is suddenly gone

Jeff Ingman

I installed SP3 some time ago.

When I run Office Update it says I don't need any.

But I when I click Help About... I don't have SP3... and I'm having problems
with the viewing pane in Outlook.

Suggestions please.

Hi, Jeff;

Which version of Office are you using? If Office 2000 then this link may be
of help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829080/en-us

As for what shows in Help/About, that doesn't always indicate what SP you
have installed. The info there is based on what is in the MSOxx.DLL file
and not the actual app. You can find the .EXE and right-click/Properties to
get actual version info for each application. This situation is documented
in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255275/ and similar articles; noting that
it isn't as prevalent in Office 2003 but still exists to some extent.

Sky...

Thanks for your comments. Since making my original post I realized I
probably had not install SP3 for Office 2003... because I didn't actually
need it. (That's why Office Update doesn't list it as something I need.)

I was getting an error message in my Outlook preview pane... and when I
typed the error message in a search engine... it implied I needed SP3. When I
looked at "Help, About" I had SP2. I remember having the same problem
previously that I 'd fixed... so I thought I must have installed SP3 back
then.

But my problem healed itself when I rebooted... without installing SP3...
and I now realize my original post was totally bogus.

Sorry.
