HELP! Style, paragraph border

D

drdocument

I'm hoping someone can help me out, here.

I'm creating a directory, formatting each entry as a multi-line
paragraph (with Manual Return for each new line).

I want a border, a line beneath each entry (each paragraph).

I've created a Style with the desired options, including Space Before
and a bottom border 3-pt. below the line.

However, the border only appears underneath the last paragraph on each
page. If I place the cursor in another paragraph and look at the
Formatting Palette the Borders palette indicates a border beneath, but
it does not appear. If I change the border in the Borders palette and
then change it back to border beneath, the border is applied but is
removed from where it was before.

In other words, I can only get one "border beneath" to appear on any
one page, even though there are multiple paragraphs, all with a Style
that includes "border beneath."

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks,

Ken

After some futzing with style definitions I managed to define a style
that works as you want.
Based on my body style, it ended up looking like:-
+ Border:Between : (Single solid line, Auto, 0.5 Line width, From text:
1 pt Border spacing:)
I didn't bother making the numbers the same as yours, but the trick is
to select more than one paragraph before going into modify È format
Èborders in the format È style È new dialog. That way you get presented
with a third alternative in the vertical list of where to stick your
line.
However, the border only appears underneath the last paragraph on each

Yep. I bet your style def says "Bottom" where mine says "Between"

Let us know if that works for you. Your question did motivate me to
adding a useful style to my heap of 'em.

Hi Ken:

You need to use more than one style :)

The rule is that: if you have two paragraphs of the same style back-to-back,
Word assumes you want to create a "box" and it suppresses the border on the
inside paragraphs.

If you format your multi-line entry with more than one style, Word will
print the border on each paragraph.

So: Create your "Entry" style with a box all around.

Then create an "Entry First" or "Entry Last" style, with the border only on
the top or bottom, as appropriate.

So long as you have a "different" style somewhere in the mix, you will get
the border all the way around.

Hope this helps

No he doesn't. Did you see my post?
Border Between does what he wants, and how to get it.

Nah. You lack creativity.

Oh, right...

Well, THAT doesn't follow the rules. Then again ‹ When did you ever follow
the rules? :)

I'll be interested to see how robust that technique is: because I suspect
that it's not "supposed" to work :)

Useful though, when it does :)

Cheers
