Help summing time?

B

I have the following:
6:15
10:30
9:45
5:30

They are fomatted as time 13:00. I'm trying to add each of those cells
into a generic colum. I get 8:00 as the sum when adding into the same
type of time column. I have also tried generic and get 1.333333. When
I highlight each time cell while holding down shift, the correct total
displays. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Brett

You have to use the format [H]:mm for that sum cell in order to get a sum
in hours:minutes larger than 24:00.
Otherwise it is always reduced to a smaller than 24 hours number (less than
a day).

I had to translate this from the Dutch format ":mm" so there might be a
syntax error. Try to find in "Help" information about "Create a custom
number format" and then the specifics for "Date and/or time".

Thanks. That's working but includes seconds, [h]:mm:ss. I couldn't
find one without seconds. I'm using Excel 2003 SP1. Any ideas?

You can modify the format by taking the :ss out.
That way you've created a new custom one and it appears at the bottom of
the list.

You can also create any custom formats from scratch as long as you know and
use the proper syntax.
