Help - Text Disappears in shapes when selected for editing.

When text is high-lighted (blue background) text completely disappears. When
the highlighted area is clicked, the edit caret "|"appears but no text is
visible. If escape is pressed the text reappears.

Anyone know what setting can stop this from happening?
