Help, want to subtract new entry and old one.

I have a table with meter readings only, normalized to other tables with
dates, etc. At the end of the month, I want to be able to take the ending
meter reading and report the total Gallons used. Please help. Perhaps I don't
do this in the report, would it be better in a query, etc. 'i am using Access
2003.

I am a newbie, so be as specific as possible.
