help! weird symbols in Word 2007

my forward slash / question mark key is typing a weird e with an accent over
it. it's only happening in Word (2007). i have the language set to English,
and already checked my keyboard settings. i have no idea how it happened, and
it did so in the middle of typing a document. three lines back i have a
regular old forward slash, and now i can't type it!
if it makes a difference, i'm using an acer laptop, and on that key there is
the e symbol in green (forward slash and question mark appear in white).
cheers

Sounds like your laptop has a function key somewhere that activates
the "green" keys. Check your hadware documentation (not a Word
problem).

I have the exact same problem only with a Toshiba laptop. My forward slash
key also depicts the e accent aigu (the french letter) which is a red "alt"
key function. I can't get it to turn of either - I need more info than
"hardware documentation". I don't know where to look for this......thanks.

Ask Toshiba. This forum is for Word.

Gee thanks for the help. Could you be more rude? I simply asked the same
question as the guys before me.

You said you needed more info than "hardware documentation" and didn't know
where to look for it. Graham was suggesting that the likely supplier of
hardware documentation is the maker of your laptop. You should look to
Toshiba for this information.
