HELP! What are "~WRLXXXX.tmp" docs?

I have four of them in 'My Documents'. The "XXXX" in the subject line
[above] merely have different, unrelated, non-sequential numbers where the
X's are. At least two of these things seem connected to real Word documents
I was working on.

I cannot delete, rename nor move these ~WRLXXXX.tmp things no matter
what I try.

I have no idea what they are nor how to get rid of them.

There's also something called "normal" docs [I think], which seem possibly
connected too. No idea what those do either. I delete them.

The files you describe that I find on my computer are versions of Word
documents I've worked on in the past. (Other files, e.g., ~WRF***.tmp
appear to be created by other apps.) They are temporary files created by
Word that I believe become irrelevant after you save whatever you are
working on at the time. They appear in several different directories on my
computer, not just in a designated temp or tmp directory. I suspect it's
only the latter directories that are cleaned out (of *.tmp files)
periodically. The orphans in other dirctories are just left there. Some of
mine are from 2002.

The file is probably "read only" which is why you can't delete it. Right
click on the file in Explorer and select Properties, select the General tan,
uncheck the Read only box. Exit and delete.

Be careful about deleting files called "normal." In particular, do NOT
delete the file "normal.dot." It remembers all your preferences and macros.
You lose all your personal refinements to the Word working environment. You
don't lose the ability to use Word, you just have to start again with your
customizations.
