HELP - Where have the Merge Options gone?

I am an experienced Microsoft user but find that the way
Word 2002 forces me to use the mailmerge facility is very
longwinded and time consuming (I type at around 85wpm and
am a "keystroke" rather than a "mouse" person). It tries
to force me into using Access for my internal database
instead of the old table in another word document (though
I usually used Excel and still can).

My mail problem comes when I want to insert merge fields
into the document. The dialogue box opens but after
inserting a field I find I have to close the dialogue box
and move the cursor to the next field location, reopen
the dialogue box and insert the next field and repeat
this process again. Before, I could simply get a drop
down list and insert as I went without all the box
opening and closing.

However, that is not the end of my problems. I find the
merge itself tiring. Before I would click on the merge
command and would then be able to go to Merge Options and
set the merge so that I could select matching or non-
matching criteria for specified fields (e.g. merge only
to people where the "Town" is "Bristol" or merge to
everyone except those whose "Town" is Bristol). The new
version seems to want to me scan every single line my my
database and confirm whether or not they are to be
included in the merge.

HOW CAN I SET WORD 2002 TO ACT LIKE WORD 6 FOR MAILMERGE
as it was very much easier and faster.

Please help me.

Hi Margaret,

Take a look at the Word 2002 information on my website:
1) You can get the old interface back
2) You can build your own field list dialog box that lets
you work in the document and the dialog box at the same time
