help with 16 bit window subsystem error at start of install of of.

I receive a error message that I can not get around and do not understand.
C:\WINDOWS\System32\AUTOEXEC.NT.
The system file in not suitable for running MS-MOS and Microsoft Windows
applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application

Close Ignore


Choosing Ignore does nothing. HELP if you can ....My son need Word to do
is College homework!!!
