Help with HTML in Outlook 97 after crash......

N

Neil Humphrey

Hi Folks,

I have a problem with a new install of Outlook 97. I recently had a hard drive go on me and have reinstalled my copy of Office 97 Professional on a XP machine. Sp2 unless I am mistaken. I had some problems installing office as there were a couple of scuffs on the cd. I couldn't do a custom and had to settle for a typical. To make a long story short, I no longer see emails in Outlook in html. Seems to me, ( 10 years ago!) I had the same problem and it was fixed in an odd way. Do any of you have any idea what I might try? It's driving me nuts, as if a HD crash isn't bad enough!

Thanks for reading,

Neil

Outlook 97 didn't "do" HTML. There is no patch. You may be remembering the free upgrade to Outlook 98 which did render HTML.

You could well be right. I have had this since day one. Do you recall or
know what it was called or if it's still available? I have found a lot of
stuff on th MS website but unless you know what you are looking for, it's a
bit of a needle in an haystack.......

Thanks,

Neil

What "what" was called? What are you asking about? Outlook 97 never will do HTML. The free Outlook 98 was withdrawn over 7 years ago. What are you looking for?

Well it was the upgrade I was looking for. I have installed Outlook far more
recently than 7 years ago. Likely 3 in fact so availability must have been
more recent. At any rate, regardless of when, if you don't think it's out
there any longer, I shall stop looking for it. Thanks for your help though.
Much appreciated.

Outlook 98 was available until Office 2000 was released in 2000. It was available for only a couple of months after Office 2ks release. If you previously had Outlook 98, Microsoft provided a download link on request for only another year or so. If you ordered the CD (like I did) when it was first offered for download, then you have a perpetual copy. If you kept the downloaded files, then you have recourse to reinstall from them.

However, Microsoft has made available 4 newer editions (2000, 2002, 2003 and now 2007) and will not nor cannot supply an edition that is 9 years old.
