Help with Mail Merge

Mike VanHorn

I have a customer that wants 30,000 addresses imprinted on a
postcard. Apparently, the lists are done in an Excel spreadsheet. How
do I:

1. Format Word to accept these and print them in the appropriate area.

2. Sort them to postal specs.

3. We have CardScan...can we use the database file to do self-promo
mailers?

Thanks for any info.

Please e-mail me with any replies: (e-mail address removed)

Hi Mike,

I'd start by reading up in the HELP text on mail merge LABELS for the
*version of Word involved* (since you don't mention it, it's not
possible for us to give you any other kind of answer). Then try it out -
the customer will be paying you after all, not us :)

Note, however, that there's no way the Word-Excel connection is going to
do 30,000 in one "batch". It will need to be broken down; how many will
depend on the individual configuration; probably less than 10,000 in a
"batch".
2. Sort them to postal specs.
Couldn't say, without knowing what the postal specs are. You don't even
tell us which country you're in. (Yes, these groups are international!)
3. We have CardScan...can we use the database file to do self-promo
mailers?
Depends on what data format(s) CardScan provides.

Sorry for the lack of info...I am on a Mac with OSX running Word X for
Mac. I am in the US. I looked in the help section, but don't see much
detail on how to do this. I understand that you aren't the one getting
paid to do the work, therefore I should figure it out on my own...that is
why I am researching this online.

As far as postal specs...I mean sorting by Zip Code, or demographic
content.

Thank you for anything you have to offer.
