Help with Number Formats

L

Luis Gonzalez

Hi:

I have a iBook G4, configured to use number formats for Mexico, that
is, using a comma for thounsands grouping and a dot for decimals. I
have the Office Mac Student Teachr Spanish CD. However, inside Office
(e.g. Excel) the number format is reversed, using a dot for thousands
and a comma for decimals. Furthermore, the currency format always uses
the euro's sign instead of the $. I've looked in the preferences panel
and found nothing on how to change this. Is there any way to solve this
problem?

Best regards

Hi Luis -

Excel takes its cue from the OS. With Excel *not* running, try
AppleMenu>System Preferences - Format, choose the settings you want. That's
what Excel will use when you next launch it.

I'm afraid that is the only place that controls the format display unless
other modifications have been made (such as customizing formats/toolbars,
macros, etc.).

Try this -

With no programs running go into System Preferences & select a currency
format other than US and a Region other than United States. Log out/in,
launch Excel & check to see if the changes took place... Just type in a
number & format it.

Then shut down Excel, go back to System Preferences & reset for United
States Region & US Currency. Log out/in, launch Excel & see what happens.

If this still doesn't fix the problem you may have a corrupt preferences
file, so when you post back with results make sure to mention OS version &
Office version. Also, are the OS & Office fully updated?
