Help with old dates on Word! How can I keep them from changing?!

A few years back I typed my journal on the computer. When I typed it
back then, I remember using this function on Microsoft Word where you
could just hit CTRL + Some other key and it would insert the current
date for you. You could also do this with the current time. So I had
different entries that read, August 7th, 1998 10:11 PM or whatever.

My problem is that recently when I open up that file on Microsoft Word
2002 (from Microsoft Office XP), all the dates on that old file are
changed to the current date. So for example, today is January 14th,
2004. So every date in my journal is listed as January 14th, 2004. The
times are also whatever the current time is.

Is there any way I can fix this? I am sad to lose all my old dates
from that journal, and would appreciate any help!

I have tried to open the file on Windows Wordpad, but I can't because
it has a password on it and I don't think Wordpad knows what to do
with the file because of the password. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
