Mark

I'm running XP & Outlook 2007.

I've seup a BCM on PC called sales4 and if I try and connect my PC to sales4
I get told '' cannot access the database server on PC xxx''

Have tried with both PC's with full administrator access and on about 5
other PC's but still no matter which PC has the database it can't connect to
it....

I'm runnging the PC's on a win2k server but surly this wont cause the
problem

Any help please?

OK now I'm getting some where but still have a problem.

Workstation to workstation OK but if I setup the BCM on my w2k server that's
running outlook 2003 the workstations running office 2007 can't connrect to
the BCM database, I can ping the server and outlook connects.

any advice welcome.

thanks

Hi Mark,

BCM is designed to work with the same version of its clients. In
other words, BCM 2007 client would only connect to the database shared
by other BCM 2007 clients, and in your scenario where you want to
connect BCM 2007 client to a database created by BCM 2003 client is
not going to work.

Thanks John

As my server is w2k and won'y run outlook 2007 is there any way I can setup
a BCM database on the server so all 2007 users can share it?

Regards

Mark

It is possible to setup BCM database instance on a server without running
Outlook on it.

I am just getting back to supporting this product after taking a break since
2006 so I'll need a bit of time to remember how it's done. Off top of my
head, what's involved is enabling TCP/IP access to the SQL instance, and
custom TCP ports.

Yes Mark,
For BCM 2007, you can go to Microsoft website and download a "Admin
Tool' for Business Contact Manager 2007. It allows you to create
database on server boxes and configure shared users for this very
purpose.
When you are getting the tool, just remember to get the 2007 version
instead of the 2010 version (since you have Office / BCM 2007 :) ).
