Help with Windows Installer Patch Package Error

D

Daryl

Hi all!
I am having trouble with removing Office XP from my
system. I keep getting a windows patch package error. I
found a KB article on it:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=295823

You would think I could just follow the KB article, but
it does not apply to people with version 2 installer
(me); and there is no subsequent instruction what to do.
(BTW, In desparation, I did try it eventually, and it did
not fix the problem.)

Because of this, I have multiple problems:
1) My system will not work with the Office Update tool on
the website (even the manual updates do not work
sometimes);
2) While running Office 2003, I get a Windows Installer,
Preparing to install... pop-up box over-and-over-and-
over; and
3) I have at least 300MB of useless stuff on my disk.

I have uninstalled Office 2003 a couple of times, but
this did not fix the problem. Office XP is still in the
Add/Remove items list, and cannot be removed.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Windows Installer problem

I had the same problem with Office 2003 / Windows XP

In the Dutch Office Discussion Group I found some adequate instructions.

I did the following:

Uninstall Office 2003

The remainders of Office XP I was not able to uninstall

Start Regedit

Go to

HKey | Local Machine | Software | Microsoft | Office

Rightclick on Office and delete

Go to

HKey | Current User | Software | Microsoft | Office

Rightclick on Office and delete

Go to C:\Program Files\... and delete everything of all Office versions

I also deleted some files in Document & Settings

Then I installed Office 2003 again, completely running from my computer

Now the Installer problem is over.

I still am not able to automatically update Office 2003, but that I can do manually.

I searched 24 days on the Internet before found the solution. The Microsoft Helpdesk could not help me.
