Help with Word font changing etc

Nymphetamine

I installed word from an office 2000 CD a few weeks ago. I needed the
key, which I had, and it installed fine. The icon was a large mint
green "W". When I opened multiple documents in Word, each icon did NOT
show up on the Windows Toolbar. Lastly, when I pasted text into an
open word document, the original font changed to what the font was in
the open
word document (this is what I want to do)

The program winword got deleted and I installed it again. I did not
need
the key this time. The icon is now a royal blue "W" with a blue order.
When I open multiple documents in Word, each icon DOES show up on the
Windows Toolbar. And when I paste text into an open word document, the
font does NOT change to what the font is in the open word document, it
defauls to Times New Roman.

What happened? How do I go back to either the Green W word (whatever
that was), or just the feature where the font of the pasted text DOES
revert back to the font of the text already in the document?

Hi Nymphetamine

I have never seen a mint green Word logo; Word's logo has always been
blue for me. I would suspect that the cable from monitor to machine
wasn't pushed in completely.

On opening multiple documents in Word 2000, see:
When I open a Word 2000 (or higher) document, it creates a new instance
of Word. How can I stop it from doing this?

On how Word manages the format of text pasted from one document to
another, see:
Why does text change format when I copy it from one document to another?

Hope this helps.

I have a laptop so no cable, all the other icons were the same as
before, it was definitely a large greenish W without borders, whereas
now its a small royal blue with borders.

That works but it takes even more time than changing the font, each
time I have to paste. Before it was doing it by default, how do I get
that working again?
Thanks for the info.

The green bordered logo sounds tantalizingly familiar, but I can't put my
finger on it. Could it have been a version of WordPerfect, or perhaps
something from Open Office?

Are you sure you installed Word 2000 the first time? The greenish-blue
W icon is Word 97. The fact that there weren't multiple taskbar
buttons for multiple documents is further proof that it must have been
the older version of Word.

In Word 2000, to lose the formatting of text you are pasting, use
Paste Special. Select "Unformatted Text" or "Unformatted Unicode Text"
as the format, instead of "HTML Format" or "Formatted Text (RTF)".

That explains it then, it was Word 97. That also explains why I needed
the key. I didnt even know I still had word 97.

Right, that worked. But it takes way too long to do repeatedly, and
its something I have to do repeatedly. So the only question is, is
this something automatic by default in Word 97? Are there any problems
installing Word 97 over 2000, or I guess I will un-install 2000 first.
