Help With Word

A

Ann

Hi there,

We recently had Microsoft Office XP Small Business Edition
installed on our computers and one of my co-workers has
encountered a problem as follows:

Whenever she launches Word the program opens up to the
first letter she ever wrote on the program. The letter
cannot be deleted and when she goes to get a blank page
with the new document icon the letter still remains on the
page. The only way she can get a blank page is to use the
mouse to highlight the letter and then delete it.

While trying to fix this problem I encountered the
following error message:

The folder 'C\...\mydocuments\maryanne.doc' isn't
accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable
location, protected with a password, or a filename
contains a / or\.

We had our local tech in here trying to fix the problem
and he believes a template may have been formed. Can
anyone help me to resolve this problem? Your input would
be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Your co-worker probably accidentally saved the letter she
was typing as her normal.dot. The normal.dot is what Word
uses to open a blank document. Do a search on the pc for
all normal.dot's, make sure all instances of Word are
closed, and delete them. Then relaunch Word, it should
recreate a default normal.dot.
